Mlynské Nivy Urban Study, Bratislava

The urban study focused on an important area on the eastern development axis of Mlynské nivy. The former brownfield sites, mostly occupied by abandoned buildings and close to the city centre, offer significant potential for the city’s development.

SIEBERT + TALAŠ proposed a mixed-use approach to the future development of the area. The study’s main contribution lies in the design of the movement networks, particularly pedestrian crossings linked to public transport, and in the provision of shared utilities.

The study raised questions about contemporary urban planning, above all how public infrastructure can be financed in a market economy. This led to the founding of the Institute of Urban Development as a platform for discussion, and to subsequent changes in legislation.
